Services / Website Audit

Website audits that give your business clarity.

A close-up analysis of why your website isn't doing what you want it to do. No fluff, just plain English reporting and actionable next steps.

Get in touch

A website audit gives you a clear picture of where you stand.

I look at everything that affects how your site performs and how potential clients experience it. From how it ranks and whether it meets accessibility standards, to the quality of your content, your page speed, and what's happening under the hood with your code.

Everything is measured against what you're actually trying to achieve. The result is a plain English report that tells you what's working, what isn't, and exactly what to do about it.

It's designed to help you have informed conversations with whoever looks after your site, and to keep your marketing on track.

This isn't your standard automated website audit.

We've all been there. Daily emails offering to audit your website for free, in the hope you'll hire them in exchange for a 30-second report. This isn't that. Every audit is done manually, and takes up to 3 weeks to complete. Data is verified and compiled into a report that's easy to understand, and can be acted on however you like.

What's covered

Keyword Research

Find out which terms your potential clients are actually searching for, and whether your site has any chance of ranking for them.

Content Clustering

See how your pages relate to each other, and how to structure your content so Google understands what your site is about.

Content Gap Analysis

Discover the topics your competitors are ranking for that you're not covering, and where the easiest wins are hiding.

Local SEO

Check how visible you are to clients searching in your area, from your Google Business Profile to local directory consistency.

Technical SEO

Uncover the behind-the-scenes issues stopping search engines from properly crawling, indexing, and ranking your pages.

Performance

Measure how fast your site loads across devices, and identify what's slowing it down and costing you visitors.

User Experience

Understand how visitors move through your site, and what's getting in the way of them making an enquiry.

WordPress

A deep dive into your theme, plugins, and code quality to find security risks, dead weight, and anything that shouldn't be there. WordPress Audit only.

Accessibility

Identify barriers that could exclude users or expose you to legal risk under the UK Equality Act 2010.

Your website audit report

The audit report gives you something most business owners don't have: a clear, honest picture of how your website is actually performing.

Rather than guessing why enquiries aren't coming through or why you're not appearing in search results, every finding is backed by real data. From how your pages load and rank, to whether potential clients can find you, to the content gaps your competitors are quietly exploiting. All laid out in plain English, with no jargon and no vague advice.

Every recommendation is mapped to a clear timeframe: what to fix this week for an immediate impact, what to work on over the next three to six months, and what to plan for over the coming year. What makes it genuinely useful is that everything is measured against your goals, not a generic checklist.

How it works

1

Discovery Call

About an hour of your time to discuss your business, your goals for your website, and what to expect from the report.

2

Project Access

You provide access to the tools I need: Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and usually your hosting information.

3

Visual Inspection

I view your website for the first time as if I were a potential customer, before any data analysis starts. This gives me an unbiased first impression.

4

Data Analysis

Using Google's own services alongside specialist tools, I dig into your site and benchmark it against your competition. This is where the real work starts.

5

Reporting

I compile my findings into a plain English report with a step-by-step improvement plan for the next 12 months. Every finding is documented and every recommendation is explained.

Once you have the report, you can pass it on to your developer, act on it yourself, or hire me on a retainer to work through the recommendations. The report is yours to use however you like.

Pricing

Both packages are for marketing websites. They are not suitable for WooCommerce or Shopify stores.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to complete a website audit?

Once I have all the access and credentials I need, it typically takes 3–4 weeks to complete.

What if I don't have Google Analytics or Google Search Console installed?

It's not a problem. I can help you get them set up before we start, or work from alternative data sources where they're not available. Having them in place is always worth doing regardless.

How will I know your data is legitimate?

Every finding is sourced from real tools — Google's own services, established SEO platforms, and manual testing. The report documents where each data point comes from, so you're never asked to take my word for it.

Do you only work with WordPress?

No. The Basic Audit covers any marketing website, regardless of platform. The WordPress Audit adds a deeper technical review specific to WordPress sites.

Will the audit include making changes to my website?

No — the audit is purely diagnostic. You'll receive a detailed report and improvement plan. You can then act on it yourself, pass it to your developer, or hire me to work through it.

How often should my website be audited?

For most small businesses, once every 12–18 months is sufficient, or when something significant changes — a redesign, a new service offering, or a noticeable drop in traffic or enquiries.

What clients say

The biggest compliment I can give Dave is that every time I have to work with other developers on projects where I don't get to choose the developer, I'm reminded just how much better Dave is, and how easy he makes the whole process.

Gareth Rees

Perch Digital

I have used dozens of WordPress development firms, but Dave is the developer I turn to when I need top quality, careful craftsmanship and reliable follow up.

Jeff Seaver

Seaver Interactive

One cannot underestimate how powerful it is to have a developer say simply: "You design it, I'll code it" — and actually mean it. There has been no instance when Dave has been unable to code something exactly as we wanted.

Zac Cohen

ZAC Digital Agency

Dave Wilkinson

One person. No account managers.

I've been working in digital since 2004. In that time I've built websites, managed projects, untangled broken workflows, and helped small businesses make sense of an increasingly complicated set of tools and decisions.

I work directly with every client. When you email me, I reply. When something needs sorting, I sort it.
